How do we support students at Te Whare Whai Hua?
- We support young parents in continuing their education and achieving NCEA and further qualifications, with guidance from experienced and caring kaiako.
- We offer a Hauora-focused programme that includes personal development, parenting support, group activities, and opportunities for fun and connection.
- We have an on-site, licensed early learning centre that provides a safe, nurturing, and responsive environment for pēpi and tamariki aged 0–5.
- We offer access to a Whānau Support Social Worker through Te Aka Ora. We also work alongside a range of community and support services to ensure our māmā have access to social support, career guidance, budgeting advice, health services, and agencies such as Well Child providers and WINZ.
- We create a space where young parents can connect, build friendships, and feel a sense of belonging within a supportive community.
- We offer van transport to and from the centre for both māmā and babies, and support access to funding options, such as the Training Incentive Allowance, where appropriate.

Student Testimonials
“Becoming a young mum was a huge change for me. Honestly, I was lonely. Te Whare Whai Hua changed it all. I met mums just like me. I wouldn’t have made it as far as I have if it weren’t for my teachers there. I’m currently enrolled at EIT in outdoor education as I hope to be a DOC Ranger. This vision would not have been possible without TWWH and their ongoing support, even after I graduated.”

“As a young Māmā, TWWH provided me with the support, structure and encouragement I knew I needed without knowing which steps to take.

“I came to TWWH because I wanted to keep studying and fill my days with something useful. I never finished high school so it has been great to come back and study. TWWH helps me to push towards what I want my future to be like. It is a great environment with great energy and kind people. I’m glad to have joined the TWWH whanau.”
Moana
"I was 16 years old with my then 6 month old daughter. TWWH helped me lay the foundations for my baby and me for our future. Through TWWH, I was supported into my first rental, I got my restricted license & I gained university entrance, to name only a few areas in which TWWH helped us. All of these were solid pillars for myself and my baby to build on. Fast forward 13 years I am a Mama of 3, A home owner and a Registered Nurse for six years and currently work as a Tamariki Ora Nurse. For any young mum reading this. It's not over or too late. You can achieve great things for you and your baby. Enrol at TWWH and start your journey today!
