PE & Health
Physical Education (PE) and Health Education are compulsory subjects at years 9 and 10 so all students entering Lytton will have the opportunity to make use of the quality facilities the school possesses. In addition, at year 10 an extra PE option class is available for students to select should they desire. The course will further develop knowledge of interpersonal skills, fitness, nutrition, human anatomy and performance from those taught in year 9.
Authentic localised learning via Te Taiao o Te Tairawhiti (wider Te Tairawhiti environment) is a growing focus within our junior programme. By utilizing local networks we offer students opportunities to improve movement, coordination, communication skills and self confidence in a number of ways.
The activities are normalized through water safety, day treks and other activities outside of the classroom. These opportunities enable us to build stronger connections within our community and provide our students with richer learning experiences. The school’s NCEA programmes build on the skills practiced in junior level programmes.
Academic Physical Education, Outdoor Education and Practical Physical Education courses are offered to year 11,12 and 13 students. These subjects cater for all students. From those wanting to explore movement who are at a beginner level, through to those who are competent, have a passion for sport and the outdoors, or are interested in furthering their education at a tertiary level.
